Parent and Caregiver Survey (PaCS)

Dear Parent and Caregivers,

We are currently collecting information to help us make informed decisions about how we can improve our school. The aim of this process is to build and maintain a positive school climate in which your child/children will flourish. To help us in our efforts, we are inviting you to respond to the Parent and Caregiver Survey (PaCS), developed at Curtin University. Your response will provide us with the information and foundational focus points that we will use in planning our school improvement efforts.

Your confidentiality

To protect your confidentiality, the PaCS is completely anonymous, there are no names attached to the data and there is no way for us to access your individual response. All responses go directly to NSI, where the results are analysed and aggregated into feedback reports. NSI is bound by a Code of Ethics and follows strict professional conduct.

Use of the data

NSI will aggregate all responses and provide us with a comprehensive feedback report. To enable us to target our decision- making, we may be provided with information based on your background information (e.g., are you the mother, father or caregiver). To protect your anonymity, we will only be provided with this information when responses from four or more people fall within any given category.

How to complete the survey

Using the information at the top of this page, you will be taken to our school’s PaCS where you will be asked to respond to statements that ask about your perception of different aspects of the school climate. These statements are about practices that may take place in our school, and we ask that you indicate how often you feel each statement takes place. All statements require your response.

If you have more than one child at the school, we ask that you consider responding more than once as our students often have different experiences at school when compared to their siblings. The PaCS will ask you to indicate whether you are responding once for all your children or if you are responding separately for each child. If you decide to respond once for all your children, you will not be asked to tell us what year level each child is in.

If you require more information or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us or the NSI Team.
Email: NSITeam@NSIPartnerships.com.au
Your time and consideration are appreciated, and we look forward to working with you to improve our school.

To respond to the PaCS Mother Teresa Catholic College, please go to www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the code MTCCPACS in the Start Questionnaire field

Semester 1 Exam Periods – Year 11 and 12 Students only

Year 12 Exam Period
Week 5 and 6 - Monday 22 May – Friday 2 June inclusive

Year 11 Exam Period
Week 6 and 7 - Monday 29 May – Friday 9 June

During the Examination Period, students are off campus unless attending an Exam. Students will be expected to arrive 20 minutes prior to their Exam start time for preparations. All students on campus regardless of whether they are completing an exam, studying in the Hub, or completing late assessments are required to wear Winter Uniform.

Any ATAR students that wish to study at school on any given exam day are able to work silently and individually in a designated area in the Learning Hub. These students are asked to notify their Year Coordinator via SEQTA DirMsg a day prior to them coming in, as well as signing in at the main Parent Reception as a ‘VISITOR’ as they arrive to school.

Students who miss an examination due to illness (or genuine emergency) must contact Ms Renae Graham, the Executive Assistant to the Associate Principals at the College on 9591 7147. In the event of illness, a student must obtain and present a medical certificate. All VETDSS students are required to attend their TAFE placements as usual during the exam period, unless they have a scheduled exam, in this instance the exam takes priority.

Students who are not attending examinations may use this time to complete work experience, catch up on any TAFE work at home, work on any unfinished course work or undertake any other opportunities to ensure that they are up to date with all Semester 1 course work.

Year 12 students return to school and classes as normal in Week 7 on Tuesday 7 June (after the Public Holiday).
Year 11 students return to school and classes as normal in Week 8 on Monday 12 June.

We wish our Year 12 students the best of luck as they undertake their exams. If you require any further information, please contact Sarah Gaynor (Year Coordinator Yr12), Greg Cranwell (Year Coordinator Yr11) or Dryw Edwards (Associate Principal Senior School).

Mother’s Day - Kindy

Last week, our Kindy mums and mother figures were invited into the classroom for a Mother's Day Crafting and Health Spa hosted by our Kindy students. Our students put in a lot of effort to make this day special, offering nail painting, shoulder massages, jewellery making, a photo booth, portrait drawing, and even singing a heartfelt song dedicated to their mums. We hope our special guests enjoyed the pampering and quality time spent with their little ones!

Mother’s Day - Year 7

On Friday 12 May, we welcomed our Year 7 mums, grandmas, and mother figures to join us for a special Mother's Day mass and morning tea. The morning began with a beautiful mass dedicated to all the wonderful mothers and mother figures in our community. It was heartwarming to see so many families come together to celebrate this occasion.

Our guests then had the opportunity to catch up and enjoy some delicious treats for morning tea. We are very grateful for the support and love of all the mothers and mother figures in our community!

Head over to our Facebook page for more photos.

Marty Ogle MJR Incursion

On Thursday 11 May we welcomed Marty Ogle, Making Jesus Real (MJR) co-founder and author, to facilitate student workshops for our Middle School students. During the day, our students reflected on their own lives to see what they are grateful for and how to show the significant people in their lives how much they appreciate them. Marty used the acronym GATE (Grateful, Appreciative, Thankfulness, and Enthusiasm) to encourage our students to care more for the people who care for them.

Marty has dedicated his life to helping young people develop a deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus. His workshops are designed to empower students to live out their faith in a real and authentic way. We feel so privileged to have Marty join us and can't wait to see the impact his workshops will have on our students!

Secondary Cross Country Carnival

On Wednesday 17 May, our Secondary School students took part in the 2023 Interhouse Cross Country Carnival. The course comprised of a 1km loop starting on the College soccer pitch, making its way around both Secondary and Junior School campuses. The weather conditions were perfect for running and it showed with some excellent performances throughout the day! Students showed the ‘Spirit of Jesus’ with their positive attitude, enthusiasm, encouragement of others and gratefulness to staff for putting on this event.

Well done to all competitors on their involvement in the carnival. It was great to see everyone giving their best efforts, cheering on their peers and beating their personal bests!

Year 6 Camp

On Wednesday 17 May, our Year 6 students embarked on their 3-day camp at Point Walter Recreation Camp in Bicton. Students enjoyed the fantastic weather and participated in a number of challenging activities with a focus on collaboration and teamwork. Some of these activities included: Archery, Ultimate Sport Challenge, Team Building, Orienteering and Hut building. Hut Building was definitely a crowd favourite and students came up with some great ideas for their shelter.

Well done to all students for giving everything a go! We hope you have had a memorable experience at the Year 6 Camp.

ACC Basketball Round 16

On Friday 5 May, the boys Junior Basketball Team played their first ever finals fixture against Emmanuel Catholic College. The game was played at the brand new Baldivis Sport Complex with the boys being coached by Mr van der Kwast. While the boys played well, Emmanuel were the better team on the day with the final score ECC 36 and MTCC 24. Thank you to the parents who came and supported the boys as well as Mr van der Kwast for his coaching!

SSWA Basketball Carnival

We are delighted to summarise our basketball teams’ performance at the SSWA Basketball Carnival. Both our teams showcased their skills and determination, leaving a lasting impact on the tournament.

Our First Team excelled in the pool games, securing victories in each match with impressive teamwork. They faced a tough final against Christian Brothers College and fought hard until the end. Although they narrowly missed the win, their sportsmanship was commendable. The Second Team engaged in intense and closely contested games throughout the tournament. A few early injuries meant that we were low on numbers, but the boys were resilient and persevered. Despite their efforts, they finished the day with a loss in the final. Their resilience and composure in high-pressure situations were commendable.

We commend both teams for their dedication, sportsmanship, and representation of our College. Their performance has earned them respect and admiration from their peers and the coaching staff.

Our gratitude extends to the athletes for their unwavering commitment and to the coaching staff, parents, and supporters for their invaluable support. We take pride in the achievements of our basketball program and anticipate further growth and success.

- Mr Mitchell and Mr Cranwell

SSWA Senior Boys Soccer: Round 1

Our Inaugural Senior Boys soccer team played their first ever after school fixture against Melville SHS. MTCC started intensely, scoring the opening goal in the first minute of play courtesy of Kai Rogers. Melville regained possession and had some very good shots on goal with Tomasso Bortot producing some spectacular saves and Ethan Rogers being the difference on a number of breaks and preventing a one-on-one with the keeper.  A second goal in the second half from Andrew Togba for MTCC sealed the deal and the team managed to hold on for a 2-0 win!

Thank you to Mr Wadsworth and Mr Ryan for coaching the boys. Our next game is at Peckham Reserve Wednesday 24 May at 4pm against Halls Head Community College.

VET/Workplace Learning News

White Card Training

On Friday 12 May, our Year 9-12 students had the opportunity to gain their White Card by completing CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (Release 2) White Card training. A White Card (or construction card) is a mandatory requirement for anyone wanting to work on a construction site, including site managers, supervisors, tradespeople and labourers.

We are grateful to Ciaran from the Registered Training Organisation 'Skill Hire' for partnering with us to provide this valuable training. This course is an excellent stepping stone for a wide range of career opportunities. Congratulations to our students who took this step toward building a successful future!

Year 10 visit to 2023 Careers Expo + VET Expo

On Thursday 18 May, the Year 10 cohort attended the Careers Expo 2023 + VET Expo at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth’s longest-running careers, training and employment expo. This was a great opportunity to find out about different jobs and industries of interest and talk to representatives from Universities, TAFEs and other training providers. Students found the expo helpful as they plan their pathways to follow their passion and work in their desired vocation in the future.

Thank you to Mr. Gaynor, Ms. McRedmond, Mr. Ryan and Ms. Zagari for assisting with supervision on the day. Also to the Year 10 cohort for representing the College in such a positive manner; we received several comments from exhibitors on how impressed they were with your behaviour on the day.

- Mrs. Sainty (VET/Workplace Learning Coordinator)

Library News

Monster Book Fair

The first Book Fair of the year was held in the Hub recently. Our goal was to sell 200 books, and we sold over 400! This meant we raised over $2,250 for the library to help with purchasing more books and resources in the future. Thank you for all your support, the Book Fair would not have been as successful without the help of the MTCC families.

Keep an eye out for our next big event, Book Week, happening in Week 3 next term!

Sustainability News

To celebrate ‘International Composting Week’ the Pre-Primary students read the book “Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth,” by Mary Siddals. The students made their own compost by adding fruit scraps, used tea bags, ground coffee, weeds, grass, vacuum dust, dried leaves, cardboard, shredded paper and water to the bins. The older students helped by turning the compost bins to mix up all the ingredients. Once the compost is ready, we will add it to our garden beds.

To consolidate their learning through the inquiry, ‘Our Histories Are Connected to Us’ Year 5 students planted potatoes in their garden bed and learnt about what they need to grow and their health benefits. The intention of this learning was to promote the connection to the potato famine and how this famine impacted migration.

Many wonderful students from Year 4-6 make up our ‘Green Team’. They give up some of their lunch time to care for our chickens, attend to the worm farms, compost, look after our garden beds and feed the fish in the aquaponics tanks. They are all doing an amazing job and show great teamwork and leadership skills.

Thank you to the wonderful families supporting Waste Free Wednesday at our College. The students love having a photo taken with their yummy waste free lunches.

Please save all your bread bags and place them in the ‘Wonder Recycling Rewards Boxes,’ which are placed at the entrance of the Junior School. There is one in the office at the Middle School reception and one at the Sustainability Centre. By collecting the bread bags that would otherwise go to landfill, our College can receive some new sports equipment for our students.
