Secondary School Athletics Carnival

On Friday 3 May the College held the first of many Athletics Carnivals on our new secondary oval. MTCC is blessed to be one of the handful of schools that has a full size 400m track and this will no doubt benefit the colleges PE program in years to come.

The day started out with an acknowledgement of country and the college prayer before moving off into the various track and field rotations.

For 2024 the format changed slightly by running both track and field events simultaneously on the day, this allowed maximum participation as well as staff and students to see our talented athletes in action.

The day finished with the 4x100m relays across all year groups and the inaugural Year 12 vs Staff race was held where the Year 12 Boys took out line honours followed closely by the Design Technology Team, HPE team and the Year 12 Girls in 4th.

Enhancing Musical Education: A Thank You to the Friends of Mother Teresa

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Friends of Mother Teresa for their support in acquiring essential music equipment for our students across primary and secondary schools. Through their generous contribution, we have been able to enhance our music program significantly, providing our students with the tools they need to excel in their artistic endeavours.

The support provided by the Friends of Mother Teresa has enabled us to procure a diverse range of musical instruments and equipment, each designed to enrich the educational experience of our students. Among these acquisitions are:

Portable Digital Piano with Keyboard Case: This versatile piano not only provides students with a platform to practice and perform, but also facilitates seamless integration with smart devices through Bluetooth communication, opening up endless possibilities for creativity and collaboration.

Pearl EXX Export Plus 20" Fusion Drum Kit: With its professional-grade quality and sleek design, this drum kit empowers our students to explore rhythm and percussion in the classroom.

Yamaha 4-String Electric Bass Guitar: Featuring an exotic wood top and maple construction, this bass guitar delivers rich, resonant tones, allowing our budding bassists to hone their skills with confidence and precision.

Jet JS-400 HSS Electric Guitar: With its roasted maple fretboard and limited white finish, this electric guitar combines style with substance, inspiring students to unleash their creativity and expressiveness through music.

Fontaine FBW210 Clarinet and Fontaine FBW172 Flute: These woodwind instruments offer students the opportunity to explore classical and contemporary repertoire, developing their technical proficiency and musical sensitivity.

Electro-Voice Evolve 50 Portable Column PA Speaker System: Designed for versatility and clarity, these speaker systems ensure that every note and nuance is heard, whether in the classroom or on the stage.

Allen & Heath CQ-18T Ultra-Compact Digital Mixer: With its advanced features and pristine audio quality, this digital mixer empowers students to mix and master their own sound, preparing them for professional pursuits in the field of audio engineering.

The acquisition of this equipment represents a significant investment in the artistic development of our students. Not only will it enhance their music classes and tuition, but it will also enrich their experiences in drama, dance and technical studies. These instruments have arrived at a great time to prepare our Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Senior Rock Band for Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Through hands-on exploration and collaborative engagement, our students will have the opportunity to discover and nurture their talents, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

On behalf of the entire Mother Teresa Catholic College community, we extend our sincere thanks to the Friends of Mother Teresa for their generosity and dedication to our students' success. Your support is instrumental in helping us create a vibrant and enriching educational environment, where every student can flourish.

Sustainability News

To acknowledge Anzac Day the students listened to the story, “Wear a Purple Poppy: Remembering animals in war” by Fiona White. Then students from Year 3-6 had the opportunity to take a cutting of the Gallipoli Rosemary which is growing in our sustainability garden and monitor its growth over time. The students could choose to grow their cutting in water, soil or seed raising mix as well as use honey or plant-cutting powder to enhance root development.

The Year One students have been busy researching everything a butterfly needs to survive which is connected to their Unit of Inquiry: Living Things Have Needs in Order to Survive. They made a class list of everything a butterfly needs and then eagerly came up with their own design of what the butterfly garden should look like.

The Kindy students are enjoying their visit to the Sustainability area and learning about where our food comes from. They have enjoyed feeding the worms and fish as well as collecting the chicken eggs.

Some of our students have been doing an amazing job putting the correct containers in the “Containers for Change Bins”. With these small changes we can all help our planet.

Thank you to the wonderful families who support “Waste Free Wednesday”. It is a great way to reduce the amount of waste we are sending to landfill by supporting this initiative in our college. A waste free lunch box is one that has no throw-away packaging. Everything in a waste-free lunchbox can be eaten, reused or composted.

Kindy News

Kindy Mother’s Day

This week the Kindy children celebrated their wonderful mothers and mother figures. We began the morning with a special liturgy about our families that God gave us. During the liturgy we gifted a flower to our mums or significant person, recognising all the love they share with us.

The liturgy was followed by a picnic in the Kindy garden with all 3 Kindy classes and their special female figures. There were biscuits to decorate together, nail painting to pamper our Mums with and special photo booths to capture this special moment in time.

Thank you to all the beautiful mothers and mother-figures who joined us.

Year 1 News

Prepare to be enchanted as our Year 1 students embark on an extraordinary adventure in their Talk for Writing program: "How to Catch a Dragon!" Guided by the imagination of the Year 1 teachers, our students are diving headfirst into a world where dragons roam and imagination knows no bounds.

Podcast Adventure:

Under the creative direction of Mr. Goddard, our Year 1 students were treated to a thrilling podcast news alert, sparking their curiosity about the possibility of a dragon on the loose at MTCC. The children's reactions ranged from delight to concern, igniting their imaginations as they pondered the challenge of trapping a dragon.

Sunny McDonald shares her excitement, exclaiming, "I'm thrilled that we have dragons!"

Charlotte Donovan exclaims" I like the sound of the dragons and I can't wait to find some clues"

Caden Seclier reports" I thought it was real and I got a bit scared"

The enthusiasm of our students is palpable as they eagerly anticipate the adventures that lie ahead in their quest to catch a dragon. This learning journey will guide and support our students to engage in Procedural texts as part of the Writing component of the English program.
