Message from the Principal
Over the past week, I have been incredibly blessed to attend a three-day Principal Retreat. An experience that reminded me of the deep value of stillness and self-reflection. In the busyness of our daily lives filled with the constant demands of work, family, and responsibility, it is very rare that we stop to reflect on our inner journey.
This retreat offered me the space to pause, to breathe, and to listen to my own heart, soul, and mind. I was invited by our presenter to consider: What is it that drives me inwardly? What brings me joy? What grounds me in purpose?
I want to encourage all our parents and caregivers to give yourself permission to pause. Whether it's a quiet walk, time in prayer, or simply sitting with a cup of tea, it is these moments matter. They are not wasted but renewing.
Mother Teresa herself was a living embodiment of the belief that “we must first start with ourselves” if we are to bring peace, love, and compassion to the world. She once said, “To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” In the same way, if we are to care for others, our children, our families, our communities, we must also care for ourselves.
So, as we move through the mid-year period, I gently encourage you to find some time to refresh, to renew, and to look after your own wellbeing. It is not only a gift to yourself, but to everyone around you.
Take care
Mr. Jay Sutton
College Principal

Celebrating the Sacrament of First Eucharist—A Special Step in Our Students’ Faith Journey
On the weekend of 21-22 June, a selection of Junior School students will take a significant step in their spiritual lives as they celebrate their First Eucharist at a special Mass held at the parish church. This sacred occasion marks a deepening of their relationship with Christ and a meaningful milestone in their journey of faith.
The Sacrament of the Eucharist is a core element of our Catholic tradition. It is in this sacrament that we are invited to share fully in the Body and Blood of Christ—strengthening our bond with God and with one another as members of the Christian community. For our students, receiving the Eucharist for the first time is both a personal and communal celebration, one that connects them more deeply to the life of the Church.
At Mother Teresa Catholic College, our mission is to support each student not only in academic achievement but also in the growth of their spiritual identity. The celebration of First Eucharist reflects our commitment to nurturing faith through both word and action and to walking alongside our young people as they grow in understanding, compassion, and purpose.
We invite our College community to keep these students and their families in your prayers as they prepare for this joyful occasion. May this special day be filled with grace, peace, and a deep sense of God’s presence.
Step Up for MSWA – Support Our Local Firefighters!
MSWA is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to providing essential support and services to people living with neurological conditions in Western Australia. With a strong commitment to helping individuals and families live their best lives, every donation to MSWA—no matter the size—makes a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of West Aussies.

Participants of all ages (6+) and fitness levels can choose from four different challenges, making it an inclusive event for families, friends, and fitness enthusiasts alike.
Over the past 18 years, more than 12,000 participants have taken on the challenge, collectively raising over $2 million to support MSWA’s vital work.

Helping Kids Feel Safe and Informed – Hospital Familiarisation Program Visits MTCC
We were delighted to welcome the Hospital Familiarisation Program (HFP) to our campus recently—an initiative proudly run by the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (AWCH).
This engaging and interactive program is designed to help children from Kindergarten to Year 3 approach hospital visits with confidence, curiosity, and calm. Through fun and age-appropriate sessions, students learn about hospital environments, medical equipment, and the important roles of healthcare professionals.
By gently introducing children to the world of hospitals in a supportive setting, the program helps to reduce fear and anxiety, giving young learners the knowledge and reassurance they need to feel safe and brave.
We thank the AWCH team for delivering such a valuable experience to our students and for supporting children's wellbeing through education and empathy.
Junior School Disco – A Night of Fun, Friendship and Fantastic Moves!
Last week, our Junior School students experienced an evening to remember as the Friends of Mother Teresa hosted the annual Junior Disco – and what a sensational event it was!
The evening saw a fantastic turnout of students who arrived ready to celebrate with their friends, old and new. From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Colourful lights lit up the space, bubbles floated through the air, and the smoke machines added a magical disco touch. With an energetic soundtrack of student favourites pumping through the speakers, there was never a dull moment on the dance floor.
Laughter and joy were in abundance as students embraced the opportunity to let loose, dance with friends, and even form a spontaneous conga line that brought everyone together in a delightful show of community spirit. Whether it was their first school disco or one of many, students left the night with joyful memories and big smiles.
Events like these are only possible thanks to the dedicated support of our parent community. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Friends of Mother Teresa for their time, creativity, and commitment to creating joyful opportunities for our students outside of the classroom.
It was a wonderful celebration of friendship, fun, and school spirit—and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Defence Work Experience Program Returns for 2025
The Defence Work Experience Program (DWEP) has returned in 2025, offering students unique insights into life in the Australian Defence Force. With placements available across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the program provides hands-on learning experiences that open doors to a wide range of career pathways.
This May, we were proud to see three of our students—Cohen (Year 12), Xavier, and Flik (both Year 10)—successfully selected to take part in A Day in the Life of a Soldier at Irwin Barracks. The day offered an immersive look at military operations and the everyday roles within the Army, including visits to the 10th Light Horse Regiment, 11/28 and 16th Battalion Royal West Australian Regiment, and the 13th Engineer Regiment.
“We went around to all the various corps… My favourite was the 16th Battalion. I came out of this day with a greater appreciation of what the Army does and all the pathways accessible from the Army and the wider Defence Force.”
— Xavier D (Year 10)
“Visiting Irwin Barracks was an exciting and eye-opening experience… I’d highly recommend it to any MTCC student considering a future in defence. It’s an unforgettable glimpse into a unique and rewarding world.”
— Flik R (Year 10)
To be eligible for Defence Work Experience placements, students must:
Be aged 15 years or older
Be currently enrolled in an educational institution
Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
We encourage interested students to keep an eye out for Semester Two opportunities. This is a fantastic way to explore the diverse roles available in the ADF and to gain firsthand experience in a dynamic and meaningful field.
Eat Up Returns – Help Make a Difference!
We’re excited to announce that Eat Up will return on Monday, 16 June (Week 8) from 3:00 pm to 4:10 pm—offering staff and students the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of children across Western Australia.
Eat Up is a community initiative dedicated to fighting student hunger by preparing sandwiches that are delivered to schools where children may otherwise go without lunch. During our last session, more than 50 students and several staff members came together to make 2,000 sandwiches for students in need—a phenomenal effort that made a real difference.
We’re calling on our College community once again to lend a hand. Homeroom teachers are encouraged to promote the event and encourage students to sign up and take part. And of course, staff support is always welcome—your presence not only helps the cause but also inspires students to get involved.
Let’s work together to support this simple yet powerful initiative that feeds minds and fuels learning.
KIC iWOMEN Graduation Night – Wednesday 28 May 2025
Congratulations to our outstanding Year 10 students—Kara, Belle, and Flik—who recently graduated from the iWOMEN Project, an initiative proudly facilitated by the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC), the leading industry association for the Western Trade Coast.
The graduation evening was a celebration of student growth, confidence, and career exploration. Each participant presented highlights of their iWOMEN journey to an audience of family members, school representatives, and industry professionals, before receiving their graduation certificates.
Throughout the program, students engaged in a variety of workshops covering:
Team building and leadership
Career pathway planning and goal setting
Health and wellbeing
Resume writing and interview preparation
A key feature of the program was the on-site industry tours to facilities such as Tianqi Lithium, Tronox, CSBP, and Crushing Services International—offering students a firsthand look at a variety of trade environments.
Participation in the iWOMEN Project not only introduces young women to career possibilities in industry and trade but also supports their progress toward the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
“This project helped in so many ways—experiencing life in different trades, preparing for the workforce, and meeting other girls eager to grow the female presence in trades. My favourite part was visiting Mineral Resources and seeing the range of roles—electricians, diesel mechanics, boilermakers. It gave me real insight into what I’d like to pursue. I highly recommend the iWOMEN Project!”
— Kara H
“The iWOMEN Project gave us the chance to meet industry experts, explore real workplaces, and take part in hands-on learning. It’s a fantastic opportunity that opened my eyes to the exciting career pathways in trades and mining.”
— Flik R“On Mondays we worked on learning resumes and safety and on Wednesdays we went to all different sites. My favourite part was going to mineral resources it gave me a lot of ideas on what I want to in the future.”
— Bella
The KIC team congratulated the 2025 cohort for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and the connections they made with students from other local schools. We are proud of our students for stepping up and embracing this unique opportunity—and we look forward to seeing the next generation of iWOMEN leaders.

A huge shoutout to everyone who came out and danced the night away at our Junior School Disco — what an incredible evening! It was truly a great night and a huge success thanks to our wonderful community.
A special thank you to all the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time to help everything run smoothly. Without your support, this night wouldn’t have been possible — we’re so grateful!
And let’s not forget the fantastic sausage sizzle! We cooked over 550 sausages throughout the evening — it was a bigger hit than we expected, and your patience was much appreciated. Next year, we’re aiming even bigger and better!
We sold nearly 600 tickets — so many dancing feet on the floor!
Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, we raised a fantastic $2,430.65! This will go directly towards new bag racks for the junior school — a great investment for our kids’ organization and convenience.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our recent survey. Your feedback is invaluable and plays a key role in helping us plan ahead for 2026. That’s right—we’re already looking forward, working closely with the school to create an even better year of events.
Our next FOMT meeting will be held on Monday, 16th June at 6:00 PM in the school library. We warmly welcome anyone who wishes to attend.
Have a fantastic weekend.
