E-News

Welcome to This Week's College E-Newsletter!

As we move past the halfway mark of Term 3, our College continues to be filled with energy, joy, and achievement across so many areas of school life. This week’s edition celebrates the many ways our students are embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute—whether through success on the sporting field, creativity in the arts, service to others, or moments of reflection in faith.

We are reminded of the richness that comes from a holistic education at Mother Teresa Catholic College: one that challenges students academically, nurtures their talents, and encourages them to live out our motto of being Strong in Faith and Love.

Take a moment to enjoy the highlights, photos, and stories in this edition, and share in the pride we have for the wonderful accomplishments of our students and the dedication of our staff.

Feast Day Celebration – Honouring Mother Teresa

On Wednesday 3 September, our College community will come together to celebrate the Feast Day of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, our patron saint. This is a significant day in the life of our College, as we pause to reflect on the example of Mother Teresa, a woman of deep faith, humility, and service. Her life and legacy inspire us to live out our College motto, “Strong in Faith and Love,” and to be people who serve others with compassion.

The day will be one of both reverence and celebration. It is a chance for our students, staff, and families to honour the spiritual heritage that shapes our College, while also sharing joy and community through activities and festivities.

Feast Day Timetable

  • 9:00am: Whole College Mass (Gym)

  • 10:00am: Homeroom/Classroom activities – learning and reflecting on the life and legacy of Mother Teresa

  • 1:00pm: Mini Fair begins

  • 2:30–2:45pm: Pack up and return to homerooms/classrooms

The Feast Day is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in prayer, learning, and celebration. Through the Mass, classroom reflections, shared meal, and our much-loved Mini Fair, we honour Mother Teresa’s message that “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

R U OK? Day – Thursday 11 September

On Thursday 11 September, our College will join with communities across Australia to mark R U OK? Day, a national initiative that encourages all of us to pause, check in with one another, and start conversations that could make a real difference in someone’s life.

At Mother Teresa Catholic College, the wellbeing of our students and staff is at the heart of who we are. Participating in R U OK? Day is a practical expression of our faith and service, reminding us of the call to care for others with compassion, kindness, and love—values that Mother Teresa herself modelled so powerfully. Asking “R U OK?” is a simple act, but it reflects our belief that each person is valued, supported, and never alone in their journey.

To show our support, all students are encouraged to wear a yellow accessory alongside their College uniform. Accessories must be in conjunction with the College uniform. Suggested items include:

  • Yellow ribbons or hair ties

  • Yellow socks

  • Yellow hats or badges

  • Yellow lanyards

By wearing yellow, we not only unite as a College community but also send a strong message of hope and encouragement to those who may need it most. Together, let us embrace this opportunity to live out our mission of faith, service, and love.

Celebrating Artistic Achievement – Angelico Art Exhibition

We are proud to congratulate three of our talented Year Six students whose artwork was recently showcased in the Angelico Art Exhibition. Using papier-mâché as their medium, each student created a unique and imaginative piece inspired by the bold and creative style of Pablo Picasso.

Heidi J – Fragmented Dreams
Heidi’s piece reflects the influence of Picasso’s fragmented forms. She describes her work as “broken, like nightmares come to life, that don’t ever go away again,” offering a powerful interpretation of Picasso’s abstract vision.

Sienna B – The Rose of Picasso
Sienna’s colourful mask was inspired both by Picasso’s shapes and the vibrancy of the coral reef. She explains, “I see lots of colours and shapes in my artwork, and the coral reef inspired me,” combining nature’s beauty with artistic creativity.

Savannah P – Crazy Chameleon of Picasso
Savannah’s playful chameleon mask celebrates Picasso’s inventive style, using bold shapes and bright colours. She shares, “My inspiration was from the creative artist Pablo Picasso. My chameleon mask uses bold shapes and colours to create a fun, unique face.”

We commend Heidi, Sienna, and Savannah for their creativity and courage in sharing their artistic talents with the wider community. Their work stands as a shining example of how our students embrace imagination, individuality, and expression through the arts.

Year 6 Students Shine at PSSA Basketball Carnival

Two weeks ago, a selection of Year 6 students proudly represented the College at the PSSA Basketball Carnival in Mandurah. It was a wonderful day of competition, teamwork, and community spirit, with both our boys and girls teams giving their very best on the court.

The boys team played with determination and resilience throughout the day, earning a commendable 3rd place finish. The girls team showed outstanding skill and teamwork, going undefeated in five games to finish 1st overall—a fantastic achievement!

Beyond the results, the carnival was an important opportunity for students to demonstrate sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork. Events like these play a vital role in our students’ educational journey, helping them to build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships. Through sport, our students learn not only the value of hard work and commitment but also the joy of celebrating success together and supporting one another in challenges.

We congratulate all our Year 6 students on their efforts and thank the staff and families who supported them on the day. Their achievements on and off the court reflect the spirit of our College community—strong in faith and love.

We are proud to support the Lucy Saw Centre, an organisation dedicated to helping women and children impacted by domestic violence. This important cause reminds us of our responsibility to live out our College values of faith, love, and service, by extending compassion and care to those in need.

This term, Charley G in Year 12 is leading a Supplies Drive, with baskets placed in every Homeroom for donations. We encourage our community to contribute generously to make a meaningful difference.

Celebrating Bella’s Success at the 2025 Angelico Art Awards

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of Year 9 student Bella Mihyo at this year’s Angelico Art Awards.

Bella was the recipient of two major awards:

  • Fra Angelico Award (Most Prestigious Award of the Evening) – Hands of Prayer

  • 1st Prize – General Exhibition 2D Artwork (Years 7–10) – Eudaimonia

Bella’s dedication to her art has been evident over the past two years, with Hands of Prayer developed last year and Eudaimonia completed this year. Each piece involved many hours of meticulous rendering, with an extraordinary level of attention to detail. Her ability to create photorealistic portraits is truly remarkable and reflects her deep commitment to her craft.

The announcement of the Fra Angelico Award, presented as the final and most prestigious honour of the evening, was a particularly special moment. As Bella’s artwork was projected onto the screen and her name announced, an audible gasp rippled through the audience—an emotional recognition of the beauty and depth of her work, and her incredible talent as a Year 9 student.

It is wonderful to see Bella’s hard work and artistic excellence recognised at such a high level. We warmly invite you to view her award-winning artworks on display at the Arts and Technologies Showcase in Week 10 this term.
