Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers
I am pleased to share with you the launch of our Vision for Learning 2026–2030, which outlines the direction for teaching, learning, and community life at Mother Teresa Catholic College over the next five years. Based upon our Catholic identity and inspired by the example of Saint Mother Teresa, this vision focuses on four foundational pillars:
Catholic Identity
Education
Community, and
Stewardship
These pillars reflect our commitment to nurturing faith, striving for academic excellence, fostering strong relationships, and acting responsibly with care for one another and the world. Each pillar is guided by the Collegevalues of Challenge, Connect, and Contribute, shaping how we grow together as a community.
As part of bringing this Vision for Learning to life, the College has undertaken a review of our leadership structure to ensure we are best positioned to support our students and staff into the future. As a result, a number of leadership positions have now been advertised for 2026, including: Vice Principal, Deputy Principal: Teaching and Learning (Years 7–12), Deputy Principal: Community (Years 7–12), Dean of Curriculum (Years 7–12), Head of Junior School (Pre-K – Year 6), Assistant Head of Junior School (Pre-K – Year 6), and Assistant Head of Junior School (Years 3–6). These roles have been carefully designed to provide strong, focused leadership across all year levels and to ensure our staff and students are well supported as we implement our shared vision.
We thank you for your continued support and partnership as we enter this exciting new phase in the life of our College.
Mr Jay Sutton

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Mother Teresa – Feast Day 2025
On Tuesday 3 September, the College will come together as a community to celebrate the life and legacy of our patron saint, Mother Teresa, with our annual Feast Day of reflection and celebration.
The day will begin with a reverent and prayerful gathering, offering students and staff the opportunity to reflect on Mother Teresa’s extraordinary journey of compassion, humility and service. We will honour the values she embodied—love, kindness, and a selfless commitment to those in need—values that continue to shape the spirit of our College.
Following the morning’s reflection, the campus will be transformed into a vibrant celebration space for our much-anticipated Mini Fair. Students will host a variety of stalls and activities across the College grounds, with all proceeds going to support the ongoing work of the Mother Teresa Charity. From games and food to creative challenges and music, the fair promises to be a joyful expression of community spirit and generosity.
Parents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend the Mini Fair from 1:00pm onwards and join us in celebrating this special day with their children.
We encourage families to talk with students about their involvement and support their fundraising efforts where possible. Mother Teresa Feast Day is not only a day of celebration, but also a meaningful reminder of the power of compassion and the positive impact we can have when we come together in service.
We look forward to sharing this special occasion with our entire College community.

100 Days Smarter!
This week our wonderful Pre-Primary students celebrated a significant milestone—100 Days of School—and what a fabulous celebration it was!
Over the past 100 days, our students have grown in confidence, curiosity and capability. They’ve explored numbers, letters, sounds, friendships and the joy of learning through play. And today, they marked the occasion not just by counting to 100, but by stepping into the shoes of 100-year-olds—dressed as delightful little centenarians, complete with walking sticks, spectacles, grey wigs, pearls and cardigans.
The event was a joyful expression of imagination and achievement. Our Pre-Primary classrooms were filled with laughter, excitement and a sense of pride as students shared what they had learnt since the start of the year. Parents, caregivers and staff joined in the festivities with a special morning tea, enjoying shared activities and a strong sense of community that lies at the heart of our College.
Moments like these remind us of the magic of early learning—where every letter learnt, every friendship formed, and every challenge overcome lays the foundation for lifelong learning.
A huge thank you to our dedicated Early Years team for creating such a warm and engaging learning environment, and to our families for their continued support and involvement.
Here’s to the first 100 days—and many more days of discovery, growth and fun ahead!
Sustainability News
Schools Tree Day was celebrated on Friday 25th July with students planting trees, bush tucker shrubs and flowers around the school. It was a great way to foster students’ connection to nature while making a real impact in our school community. The students had fun finding their favourite tree and giving it a hug.
Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be a part of the solution to plastic pollution so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, schools, and beautiful communities. Students from Year 3-6 have been participating in Plastic Free July by taking the challenge to reduce their single plastic use at school. Through discussions they have come up with many alternatives to single use plastic at home and at school.
Our Sustainability centre is always busy, with students collecting the leaves to give to our tiger worms to eat, the Green Team are happily helping out at lunchtime feeding the much-loved chickens, collecting the eggs and weeding the garden beds. The Sustainability area is a lovely place for students to visit, relax and have some mindfulness time with the chickens.

Supporting Year 12 Students' Mental Health Beyond School
As our Year 12 students approach the end of their academic journey at the College, it's important to consider how best to support their mental health during this time of transition.
With access to school-based services soon coming to a close, we strongly encourage parents and caregivers to speak with their family GP about the possibility of creating a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This plan can provide access to Medicare-subsidised sessions with qualified mental health professionals, ensuring continuity of care beyond the school gates.
Please note that referral and appointment wait times can often extend beyond six weeks, so early action is strongly recommended.
For those students moving on to TAFE or university, it's also worth exploring the student support services offered by these institutions, many of which include counselling and wellbeing programs designed to help students adjust and thrive in their new environments.
Taking proactive steps now can help ensure your child continues to receive the support they need through this significant and sometimes challenging chapter.
Celebrating Creativity and Innovation – Arts & Technologies Week Coming in Week 10
In Week 10, Mother Teresa Catholic College will come alive with colour, creativity and ingenuity as we celebrate Arts and Technologies Week—a dynamic showcase of student talent, innovation, and hands-on learning.
Led by Mr Cox and Mr Tudor, this exciting event is designed to shine a spotlight on the incredible work our students have been crafting and creating throughout the year. From vibrant visual art pieces to cleverly engineered projects and digital designs, the week promises to be a celebration of imagination and skill across the Arts and Technologies learning areas.
This is a unique opportunity for families to quite literally peel back the curtain and witness students in action—getting hands-on with subjects they are truly passionate about. Whether it’s a sculpture, a multimedia project, a culinary creation, or a tech innovation, every display tells a story of student growth, experimentation, and creativity.
We warmly invite our College community to engage with the week’s activities, visit the displays, and celebrate the depth of talent nurtured in our classrooms. It’s moments like these that affirm the power of authentic learning and remind us of the joy in creating something meaningful.
We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the extraordinary achievements of our young artists, designers and innovators!
Safe on Socials with Paul Litherland
This week, Year 5–12 students and parents of Mother Teresa Catholic College had the opportunity to participate in the Safe on Socials incursion, presented by renowned cyber safety expert Paul Litherland. This important event forms part of the College’s commitment to the CEWA Keeping Children Safe Framework, contributing to a broader culture of safety and support. By fostering a secure, informative, and nurturing environment, we continue to prioritise the health and well-being of every student in our care.
A former WA Police Officer with 20 years of service—including five years in the internationally recognised Technology Crime Investigation Unit—Paul brings extensive insight into the challenges facing young people in the digital age. Since founding Surf Online Safe, he has presented at over 850 schools and reached more than 350,000 students across Australia.
His presentations, tailored for both students and parents, were informative, practical, and highly engaging. Students described Paul as enthusiastic, trustworthy, and encouraging. Using real-life examples that resonated with all age groups, he provided valuable strategies to help young people and support to parents on navigating the online world safely and responsibly.
"Together, we can empower our children to recognise risks and make informed choices, creating a safer digital environment for everyone." – Paul Litherland
Celebrating Artistic Excellence at the Angelico Art Exhibition 2025
We are proud to announce that several of our students have been selected to showcase their work at the 2025 Angelico Art Exhibition—an annual celebration of creativity, faith, and artistic expression in Catholic education.
Year 12 student Isabelle has had two powerful artworks selected, with Behind the Lens nominated for the Catenian Art Award and Three Faces, One Fate, a thought-provoking piece on endangered species, nominated for the Catholic Earthcare Australia Award.
In Year 9, Bella's stunning pencil portrait of Mother Teresa, Hands of Prayer, has earned a nomination for the Fra Angelico Award. Her second piece, Eudaimonia, honours her Grandad’s legacy as a war veteran through a moving mixed media portrait.
Year 11 student Kiera’s ceramic sculpture Watchful Grace, symbolising maternal love, has been nominated for the Phil Somers Award.
We also commend our Year 9 painting students—Jaden, Poppy, Ava, Sofia, Eva, and Sienna—whose group piece Cherished Companions captures the love we share with our pets.
These works reflect not only technical excellence but also a profound connection to faith, family, and community. We invite our school community to view the exhibition from 11–29 August at the Forest Centre, Perth, with award presentations on 13 August.
Congratulations to all our young artists—you inspire us!
Year 9 Students Explore Future Pathways at SkillsWest Careers Expo
As part of the College’s 2025 Career Education program, our Year 9 students attended the SkillsWest Careers Expo 2025 last Friday at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This exciting event gave students the opportunity to explore a wide range of education, training, and employment pathways. The Expo featured representatives from all of Western Australia’s major universities, out-of-state institutions, TAFE and technical colleges, and numerous vocational training organisations.
Students were also able to engage with industry professionals, apprenticeship programs, and career advisory services, gaining valuable insights into the many opportunities available to them beyond school.
This experience plays a vital role in helping students make informed decisions about their future and we are proud to support them on this important journey of discovery.

Kelsey's Cut for a Cause Raises Over $1,000 in a Day
We are incredibly proud to share an inspiring update from one of our remarkable Year 8 students, Kelsey, who has shown extraordinary compassion and courage in support of the Cancer Council.
After growing her hair for more than two years, Kelsey bravely cut off 35 centimetres over the weekend to raise funds for cancer research and donate her hair to be made into wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy.
In just one day, Kelsey exceeded her fundraising goal and raised an incredible $1,062 for the Cancer Council. Her motivation? Honouring the memory of her relatives who lost their battle with cancer and helping create a future where no one has to hear the words, “You have cancer.”
Kelsey’s efforts reflect the true spirit of service and empathy, and we are so proud to celebrate her achievement.
If you would still like to support her fundraising journey, donations can be made via the link below:

Well done, Kelsey—you are an inspiration to us all.
Sol Shines in the USA with Aussie Prospects
We are proud to share that Sol S, one of our talented students, is currently in the United States as part of a high-level basketball tour with the Aussie Prospects program.
Sol’s journey has taken him to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where he has competed in several elite tournaments. His team made it all the way to the finals in Las Vegas, showcasing their skills against strong opposition, including local college teams and in front of prominent coaches and scouts.
Beyond the court, Sol has had the chance to experience American culture and explore some of the country’s iconic landmarks. His travels have included visits to the Las Vegas Strip, Disneyland, and college campus tours including UCLA, giving him a glimpse into life as a student-athlete in the US.
This incredible opportunity has allowed Sol not only to demonstrate his basketball talent on an international stage but also to connect with likeminded peers and broaden his global perspective.
Congratulations, Sol – we look forward to hearing more about your journey when you return!

Despite missing the 2025 WA Junior Championships due to illness earlier this year, Toby’s dedication, discipline, and strong performance since January have earned him one of just three spots on the U13 team—a fantastic achievement.
In the lead-up to the event, Toby will be participating in a series of training camps and tournaments focused on refining his gameplay and preparing for the competition ahead.
