‘WHERE ARE THEY NOW’

Emma N

Big Dreams Take Flight

Emma N (Class of 2024) began pursuing her passion for aviation while still in high school. Emma left MTCC in Year 10 to continue her flying pathway at Kent Street Senior High School and in Year 12 she reached an exciting milestone — flying solo after completing over 15 hours of flight training along with aviation theory.

After graduating in 2024, Emma completed a bridging course at Murdoch University during the first half of 2025. For the remainder of the year, she worked two jobs, including continuing her long-term role at Kmart where she had worked for five years, and starting a new position in August 2025 at Options Optometrists. After three months of training, Emma became an Optical Dispenser and has now been working in the role for over six months, helping people improve their vision and receive the best care possible.

Emma has now started her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, while still continuing to pursue her passion for flying.

During her time at MTCC, Emma received the Barry Marshall Award. This award, named after Nobel Prize winner Barry Marshall, recognises excellence and interest in the science field. Emma credits this experience, along with the support of Tammy Moroney, as one of the key moments that inspired her interest in the health and science industry.

Emma has many fond memories from MTCC, especially the enjoyment she found in her classes. Whether spending time with friends or learning in her favourite subjects, her classes were always filled with laughter and positivity. One staff member who stood out to Emma was Ms Liley, who always greeted students with a smile and made lessons engaging and supportive. Emma appreciated having a teacher she felt comfortable going to whenever she needed help.

Looking ahead, Emma plans to graduate in 2028 with her Bachelor of Nursing. She hopes to specialise in theatre nursing or potentially join the Royal Flying Doctor Service as a flying nurse. Alongside this, Emma also plans to continue her aviation training by completing a Diploma in Aviation and working toward becoming a commercial pilot.

We are proud to see Emma following her passions and wish her all the best for the future!

Alex K

Alex K’s Journey to the Skies

Alex K (Class of 2024) has been attending flight school at Airflight in Jandakot. Alex’s passion for aviation began in year 11 at MTCC, when he was awarded a scholarship through the Australian Air Force Cadets, which allowed him to complete 15 flying hours and undertake his first solo flight in January 2024. During his time at MTCC, Alex also completed his ATAR studies, enabling him to secure a place in the Diploma of Aviation – Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) program.

Since graduating, Alex has passed five out of seven required exams for his Commercial Pilot License and flown multiple solo hours. He is preparing to complete flights in the training area, which includes Baldivis, so if a small plane is seen overhead, it could well be Alex!.

Alex fondly remembers staff members such as Mr Cranwell and Mr Tamburrini, who made classes enjoyable and approachable.

MTCC played a significant role in Alex’s academic and personal development. Physics was a subject he initially struggled with, but with the support and engaging teaching of Mr Cranwell, he successfully passed the class. This experience reinforced the importance of study and perseverance, a mindset that Alex has carried into his aviation training, where preparation and focus are essential.

Alex also treasures his time at MTCC for the friendships and memories he made.

Looking to the future, Alex aspires to become a firefighting pilot. He is currently applying for roles in operational hangars to gain experience as ground staff before eventually pursuing a pilot role in firefighting operations.

The lessons, friendships and experiences from MTCC continue to guide Alex as he works toward his goal of taking to the skies.

Thomas K

Thomas K Wins Digital Media Award

Thomas K (Class of 2025) recently achieved success in being awarded as the 'Overall Winner' for the category of Digital Media in the 2026 KIC Youth Art Awards for his short film entitled "Burnout". This is a fantastic achievement for Thomas, as his film has been judged as the best entry in ‘Digital Media’ across the 13 participating high schools for the award exhibition.

Thomas says, "My short film, shot using Canon DSLR equipment and edited on DaVinci Resolve for iPad, explores the rising issue of overwork and burnout, inspired by Japanese “karoshi”. Following a salaryman pushed to exhaustion, it uses repetition, subdued performances, and voiceover to convey his decline. The film blends social realism and psychological drama to highlight the mental toll of relentless productivity."

His teacher, Mr Goddard, informed Thomas in Term 4 last year that he was considering his film as an entry to the upcoming KIC Youth Art Awards.

This film was produced by Thomas as his major production assessment task for Year 12 Media Production and Analysis General in 2025. This involved Thomas completing comprehensive pre-production storyboarding and scripting processes, recording his footage entirely out of school hours using College-loaned media equipment, and completing post-production editing on his College iPad, with feedback provided throughout this timeline across the year of work. Although students are encouraged to seek assistance from others when producing their work individually, Thomas produced his entire film on his own, which even included being the lead actor for his film. Within the Year 12 class, Thomas achieved the highest mark for his film.

Thomas is currently engaging in a University Preparation course to enable him to study Music Education at ECU City Campus, where he will aim to specialise in piano and clarinet for instrumental teaching.

We wish him all the best in his future.
