WA Defence Work Experience Program
The Defence Work Experience Program (DWEP) provides placements for secondary and tertiary students who are interested in a career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) or Australian Public Service (APS) across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Congratulations to Josh H who secured a place at the recent Air Force Careers Day on Tuesday.
Look out for Semester One opportunities next year. To be eligible for Defence Work Experience, at the time of the placement, students must:
· Be aged 15 years or older
· Be currently enrolled in an educational institution
· Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
“My favourite part of the program is just indescribable, every single part of the Air Force is so interesting and so important to making the base run. Every single job links in with one another, like the engineers for the ground tools, they have such a large part of the base, and they have such a big role. Though my absolute favourite part was looking at the plane simulators, and going and looking at Hawk 127, and the PC-21 up close.
I got so much information out of the program even in such a short amount of time. But the main thing I learned was that every role, every job, and every title commands a small part of the base but has a huge component in getting the pilots in the air and safely. There is so much more than just pilot and ATC, there is even Air Force security teams that get their own dogs. The careers day event has really pushed me even further to join the RAAF.
I would absolutely recommend the program to other students, even if you are not wanting to join the Air Force or any other forces it’s a really big eye opener to what happens in a military stance of our country. It has many activities in the program that can help you get into things outside of the armed forces. When I was at the medical centre, I talked to one of the guys there and he told us that he is now qualified to work in a hospital. Highly recommend this for next year!!!”
