E-Newsletter!

As we near the end of Term 2, we are delighted to share news, updates and celebrations from our vibrant community.

The past weeks have been particularly demanding for our Secondary School students, with ATAR examinations taking place alongside OLNA testing in Week 10. The students commitment, perseverance and resilience throughout this busy assessment period have been commendable.

We hope you enjoy reading and staying connected with all the wonderful things happening at our College.

We are reminded of the richness that comes from a holistic education at Mother Teresa Catholic College: one that challenges students academically, nurtures their talents and encourages them to live out our motto of being Strong in Faith and Love.

Reconciliation Week

Throughout Reconciliation Week, our Junior School students participated in a range of meaningful activities that encouraged learning, reflection, respect and connection. Guided by our Catholic faith and values, students explored the importance of compassion, dignity and walking together in unity as we continue our journey towards reconciliation.

A highlight of the week was the creation of a collaborative canvas mural inspired by this year's National Reconciliation Week theme 'All In'. Junior School students worked together to create a vibrant display of handprints, symbolising unity, inclusion and our shared commitment to reconciliation. It was particularly heartwarming to see our Year 5 students supporting the Pre-Primary children by helping them paint their hands and place their handprints onto the canvas.

As part of National Sorry Day, students took time to reflect on the significance of truth-telling, healing and reconciliation as we honour the histories, cultures and experiences of First Nations peoples. In the Learning Hub, Year 5 students assisted in placing thoughtful messages written by students across the College onto the Reconciliation Week display wall. These reflections demonstrated a growing understanding of the importance of acknowledging the past while working together towards a more united future.

Students also engaged in shared readings of First Nations stories and literature, providing valuable opportunities to listen, learn and deepen their understanding through storytelling. These experiences helped foster respect for the rich cultures, traditions and perspectives of First Nations peoples.

We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful, respectful and enthusiastic way our students embraced the week's activities. Their willingness to learn, reflect and engage with the spirit of reconciliation reflects the values we strive to nurture within our College community.

Fremantle Dockers Visit

On Thursday, 11 June our Year 6 students recently enjoyed a special visit from the Fremantle Dockers, providing an exciting opportunity to learn more about the world of professional Australian rules football.

During the session, students listened with great interest as the players shared insights into their sporting journeys, the commitment required to compete at an elite level and the importance of teamwork, resilience and perseverance. Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed both on and off the field.

A highlight of the visit was the chance for students to meet the players, have posters and merchandise signed and participate in prize giveaways. The enthusiasm and excitement throughout the session made for a memorable experience for all involved.

Our staff were incredibly proud of the excellent manners, respectful behaviour and positive engagement demonstrated by the Year 6 students. They represented the College exceptionally well and made the most of this unique opportunity.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Fremantle Dockers players for taking the time to visit our College and inspire our students. We wish the team every success for the remainder of the season.

Sustainability Update

It has been another busy and rewarding term in our Sustainability area, with students continuing to make a positive impact on our College environment through their commitment to sustainable practices.

A highlight of the term was our Sustainability Market Stall. Thanks to the support of our College community, the Green Team successfully sold fresh vegetables, plants, eggs and worm extract, raising $150.00.

These funds will be reinvested into the Sustainability program to purchase hay for the chickens' nesting boxes and vegetable seeds for our Pre-Primary students to plant in their garden beds.

We are also proud to share that our College has been recognised by Waste Sorted Schools WA for achieving 10 years as a Waste Sorted School. This significant milestone reflects the dedication of our students, staff and families who have embraced sustainable practices such as composting food scraps, recycling, reusing materials and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Throughout the term, students have been busy planting winter vegetables and seedlings in their garden beds. They are now caring for their crops by watering, monitoring for pests and enriching the soil with nutrients from our school compost and worm extract.

Many students continue to demonstrate environmental stewardship by helping keep our grounds clean and tidy during lunch breaks. Our dedicated Green Team also plays an important role in maintaining the Sustainability area, feeding the worms, silver perch and chickens as well as collecting fresh eggs each day.

We extend our sincere thanks to all members of our College community for supporting our sustainability initiatives, particularly through waste-free lunches and environmentally conscious practices at home and school.

As renowned conservationist Jane Goodall reminds us:

"What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."

Thank you to everyone who continues to make a positive difference in caring for our environment.

Junior School

Junior School Cross-Country

Our Junior School Cross Country was a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter, excitement and plenty of College spirit. After weeks of training and preparation, students eagerly took to the course, demonstrating determination, perseverance and a positive attitude as they gave their best effort to reach the finish line.

The event showcased not only the students' physical endurance but also their enthusiasm and willingness to challenge themselves. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another and celebrating each other's achievements throughout the day.

Adding to the excitement were the much-loved House ‘dance-offs’, which brought plenty of energy, smiles and friendly competition. These moments helped create a vibrant atmosphere and strengthened the sense of community across the Junior School.

We were delighted to welcome so many parents, grandparents and caregivers who came along to support the students. Your encouragement and presence helped make the day even more special and contributed to the positive spirit of the event.

A special thank you goes to Miss Fernandes, our Junior School staff and our dedicated Year 6 helpers. The leadership support shown by our Year 6 students as they assisted younger runners played an important role in the success of the day and demonstrated wonderful examples of service and responsibility.

Congratulations to all our runners. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and sportsmanship displayed by every student throughout the event.

Student of the Month

During the term, our Junior School community came together to celebrate the achievements of our students at the Student of the Month assembly. These gatherings provided a wonderful opportunity to recognise students who consistently demonstrate effort, growth and a positive attitude towards their learning.

We were also pleased to present special Helper Awards to students who generously assisted Ms Parkinson during our Reconciliation Week activities. Their willingness to contribute and support others was greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to all students who received awards this term. You should be proud of your commitment, perseverance and the example you set for others within our College community.

A sincere thank you also goes to our parents and caregivers for their continued support. Your presence at College events and partnership in your child's education help create the strong sense of community that makes our College such a special place.

Year 1 Incursion - Play in the Past

Our Year 1 students had a wonderful time participating in the ‘Play in the Past’ incursion. Students explored a range of toys, games and household items from years gone by, making valuable connections with their History learning about how daily life has changed over time.

The children were highly engaged as they rotated through a variety of hands-on activities, carefully observing, handling and discussing old-fashioned objects. Many were fascinated by the differences between the items they use today and those used by children and families in the past.

Through interactive play and guided discussions, students developed a deeper understanding of how technology, entertainment and everyday routines have evolved over generations. They were encouraged to ask questions, share their observations and compare their own experiences with those of children from the past.

The incursion brought history to life in an engaging and memorable way, helping students develop historical inquiry skills while fostering curiosity about the world around them. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to compare the past and present in a fun, meaningful and hands-on learning environment.

Luna Roo Storytime National Simultaneous Storytime 2026

On Wednesday, 27 May our Junior School students proudly joined millions of children, parents, teachers and library lovers across Australia in celebrating ‘National Simultaneous Storytime 2026’.

At 10:00am AEST, students gathered to enjoy this year's featured book, ‘Luna Roo’, a heartwarming story that celebrates the joy of reading, storytelling and connection. Written with themes of teamwork, determination and friendship, the story follows the spirited kangaroo Luna and her friends as they chase their football dreams across the Australian outback.

National Simultaneous Storytime provides a wonderful opportunity to bring communities together through a shared love of books while encouraging literacy and a lifelong enjoyment of reading. Our students thoroughly enjoyed following Luna's adventures and engaging in discussions about the important messages woven throughout the story.

Adding to the excitement of the day, our Learning Hub staff created a fantastic themed display inspired by Luna Roo. The vibrant display helped bring the story to life and created a welcoming space that captured students' imaginations and enthusiasm for reading.

We thank our Learning Hub team for their creativity and effort in making the event so memorable.

Year 7 Student Leaders Announcement

On Wednesday, 24 June, the College were delighted to announce our Year 7 Student Leadership Team following careful consideration of all applications and interviews.

After completing their first semester at the College, our Year 7 students have embraced new opportunities, formed meaningful connections and successfully transitioned into Secondary School life.

We are confident that these student leaders will be positive role models, serving as a voice for their peers and helping to strengthen our College community.

We look forward to seeing them grow in confidence, lead with compassion and demonstrate outstanding leadership throughout the remainder of the year.

Congratulations to our newly appointed Year 7 leaders!

The Year 9 Kindness Challenge Day

On Wednesday, 13 May our Year 9 students participated in the annual ‘Kindness Challenge Day’, facilitated by Catherine Kolomyjec, founder of The Kindness Challenge. This marks the third consecutive year our College has partnered with Catherine to deliver this impactful experience.

Throughout the day, students engaged in activities and discussions that encouraged kindness, gratitude, courage and connection.

They stepped outside their comfort zones, supported one another and strengthened their sense of community.

A highlight of the day was seeing students embrace their 'hero era' (capes included!) as they spread kindness and appreciation throughout the College. Through thoughtful gestures and messages of gratitude, they demonstrated the positive impact that simple acts of kindness can have on others.

We are incredibly proud of the Year 9 cohort for the enthusiasm, maturity and compassion they displayed throughout the day. Their commitment to kindness, inclusivity and respect reflects the values of our College community and we look forward to seeing them continue to make a positive impact both within and beyond the College.

Year 9 Media and Fashion Career Tasters

This month, our Year 9 students attended ‘Career Taster’ programs at TAFE, exploring pathways in both the Fashion and Broadcast Media industries.

Students gained hands-on experience in Fashion Business, creating their own shopfront concepts and miniature clothing designs while learning about fashion design, production and retail. They also explored the world of Broadcast Media, gaining insight into television, radio and media production and the many career opportunities within the industry.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated excellent behaviour, maturity and enthusiasm, embracing every opportunity to learn and engage. These valuable experiences provided insight into future education and career pathways while encouraging creativity, innovation and confidence.

A special thank you to our Future Pathways and Engagement Coordinator for organising these enriching opportunities for our students.

ACC Cross Country Carnival

Congratulations to all students who proudly represented the College at the ‘ACC Cross Country Carnival’ on Thursday, 28 May. It was a fantastic day of competition, with our students displaying determination, resilience and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the event.

Each student approached their race with enthusiasm and commitment, giving their best effort while supporting and encouraging their teammates. It was wonderful to witness the strong sense of camaraderie and College spirit on display, both on and off the track.

Several students achieved exceptional individual results against large and highly competitive fields:

  • Darcie D – 12th place out of 420 competitors

  • Lyla T – 13th place out of 418 competitors

  • Savannah P-S – 14th place out of 418 competitors

  • Jasmine W – 50th place out of 411 competitors

These achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication and perseverance shown by our students in both training and competition.

We congratulate all participants on their efforts and thank them for representing the College with such pride and excellence.

Year 12 Students Explore Post-School Pathways

As our Year 12 students prepare for life beyond College they recently participated in a series of valuable information sessions designed to support their future planning and post-secondary pathway decisions.

Students attended presentations from representatives of Western Australia's major universities, including UWA, ECU, Curtin University, Murdoch University and The University of Notre Dame Australia, as well as South Metropolitan TAFE and the Jobs and Skills Centre. These sessions provided students with important information about courses, campus life, entry requirements and the wide range of opportunities available after graduation.

Following the presentations, the College hosted a mini Expo, where students and families had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives in an informal setting. This allowed attendees to ask questions, gather resources and gain personalised advice to help inform their future study and career choices.

Later in the week, Year 12 students also participated in an information session presented by the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC). The session provided a comprehensive overview of the university application process, including information on alternative entry pathways, early applications, early offers and key dates and deadlines.

Students gained valuable insights into the steps required to successfully navigate applications for tertiary study in 2027 and beyond.

These experiences provided our students with important knowledge and guidance as they begin making decisions about their future pathways.

We thank all visiting representatives for sharing their expertise and supporting our students as they prepare for the next stage of their educational and career journeys.

Year 8 Retreat

Our Year 8 students recently participated in a meaningful Retreat Day focused on building empathy, understanding, connection and gratitude. Throughout the day, students were encouraged to reflect on their relationships with others, their role within the College community and the values that guide us as a Catholic school.

A special part of the retreat involved parents and caregivers joining their children for a reflection session.

This provided a valuable opportunity for families to spend quality time together, share personal reflections and strengthen the connections that support students throughout their educational journey.

Students also took part in activities designed to increase their understanding of the experiences of people living with disabilities. Through wheelchair-based activities and discussions, students gained insight into some of the challenges that individuals with physical disabilities may encounter in everyday life. These experiences encouraged students to reflect on the importance of inclusion, compassion and respect for all members of our community.

A fun highlight of the day was a balloon challenge, where students worked together to keep a balloon from touching the ground. While simple in nature, the activity required teamwork, communication and cooperation, reinforcing the importance of supporting one another to achieve a common goal.

The retreat provided students with opportunities to step away from their usual routines, reflect on their values and develop a deeper appreciation for the gifts and challenges experienced by others.

We are proud of the maturity, respect and enthusiasm shown by our Year 8 students throughout the day and thank the families who joined us for this special experience.

Chloe Makes a Meaningful Donation to Support Those Affected by Cancer

On 13 May, Year 11 student Chloe F made the generous decision to donate 20 centimetres of her hair to support people affected by cancer.

Chloe was inspired by a family close to her who are currently navigating a cancer journey. Witnessing both the challenges they have faced and the way they have supported one another through difficult times motivated her to make a meaningful contribution of her own.

Reflecting on her decision, Chloe shared, "I saw the impact it had on the whole family, but I also saw how much closer it brought everyone together." She was particularly moved by the courage and love shown by family members as they rallied around their loved one.

After seeing the family shave their heads in solidarity, Chloe felt inspired to take action herself. "It made me feel that I should make the gesture of donating my hair too," she explained.

For Chloe, the donation was about supporting people she cares deeply about. "I did what I did for a family that I love, and I'm proud of that because I know I did something good, not for me, but for the people that I love."

Chloe's selfless act is a wonderful example of compassion, courage and generosity. Her willingness to support others during a challenging time reflects the values we strive to foster within our College community.

We congratulate Chloe on this inspiring gesture and thank her for sharing her story.

Her actions remind us of the difference that kindness, empathy and community support can make in the lives of others.

Ethan Shares His Career Journey with KIC iMEN Students

We are proud of Year 12 student Ethan C who is currently completing his second year of the KIC Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre-apprenticeship.

Ethan recently shared his pathway journey at the ‘2026 KIC iMEN Project’, explaining how his involvement with the KIC iCAREER Project in 2024 first introduced him to the range of opportunities available through KIC.

Inspired by what he learned, Ethan applied for the Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre-apprenticeship and was successfully selected to commence the two-year program in 2025.

Now in his final year, Ethan is on track to complete the program in September and graduate with the KIC Class of 2026. He spoke confidently about his experiences, including his work placement opportunities and his passion for working on heavy machinery. His enthusiasm and commitment to his chosen career pathway were evident throughout his presentation.

The iMEN students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions as they began considering their own future pathways. Hearing directly from a student only a few years older helped make the possibilities of apprenticeships and vocational education more tangible and relatable.

Ethan is a fantastic ambassador for both the KIC programs and Mother Teresa Catholic College. His dedication, professionalism and willingness to share his experiences provided valuable insight and inspiration for younger students exploring their future options.

We thank Ethan for taking the time to share his journey and wish him every success as he completes his pre-apprenticeship and continues towards his career goals.

Macey presents with KIC iWOMEN’s Project

Another MTCC Year 12 student Macey H, is currently completing her final year of a two-year KIC (Kwinana Industries Council) Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre-apprenticeship - Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (Heavy Vehicle Servicing Pre-apprenticeship). She was invited to speak on the first day of Term Two’s KIC iWomen Project, a program developed to give Year 10 female students a real-world look at what it is like to work in industry, from the types of jobs available to the attitudes employers are looking for.

Macey shared her career journey to date, experiences, highlights and future goals with students who may be considering similar pathways in the future. Macey talked about her positive experiences working in a male-dominated industry.

Well done Macey on speaking confidently and professionally. You are a great ambassador for MTCC and KIC.
