Welcome to This Week's College E-Newsletter!
We’ve had a wonderful start to Term 2 and we’re delighted to share news, updates and celebrations from our vibrant community.
This term has already been filled with many special moments, including our ANZAC Day commemorations and Mother’s Day celebrations, where students and families came together in reflection, gratitude and community spirit. From outstanding achievements by our students to important reminders for the weeks ahead, there’s plenty to explore in this edition.
We hope you enjoy reading and staying connected with all the wonderful things happening at our College.
We are reminded of the richness that comes from a holistic education at Mother Teresa Catholic College: one that challenges students academically, nurtures their talents and encourages them to live out our motto of being Strong in Faith and Love.

ANZAC Day
The College community came together in the Gymnasium to mark ANZAC Day with a respectful and reflective service. It was a meaningful opportunity for students, staff and families to pause, remember and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
The ceremony provided a time for quiet reflection as we acknowledged the courage, mateship and resilience shown by those who have defended Australia throughout history. Through readings, moments of silence and shared reflection, students were encouraged to consider the significance of ANZAC Day and the importance of remembering those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today.
The service was further enriched by the involvement of Army, Navy and Air Force Cadets, alongside ADF members, veterans and their families. Their participation added a deep sense of authenticity and honour to the occasion, providing students with a powerful and personal connection to the meaning behind the day.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and took the time to pay their respects. Your presence helped create a reverent and unified atmosphere, reinforcing the strength of our College community.
We are grateful for the respectful manner in which our students engaged throughout the service. Their attentiveness and maturity reflected a genuine understanding of the significance of the commemoration and the values it represents.
Students who are currently involved in an ADF Cadet program and would like to participate in future services are encouraged to contact Mrs Esler via SEQTA message.
Lest we forget.
College Production
The Arts Department’s College production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ was a resounding success at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, with our students delivering a wonderfully engaging performance.
This well-loved musical follows Seymour Krelborn, a struggling florist on Skid Row, whose discovery of a mysterious carnivorous plant, Audrey II, leads to a series of unexpected events.
Our students handled the demands of this production with confidence, showcasing strong acting, singing and stage presence throughout.
There was a clear depth of talent across the cast. Lead roles were performed with confidence and consistency, while the supporting cast and ensemble contributed energy and cohesion to every scene. Musical numbers were well executed, with strong vocals and effective choreography highlighting the hard work put in during rehearsals.
Students working behind the scenes also played an important role in the production’s success. Their efforts in areas such as stage management, technical support and set preparation ensured everything ran smoothly.
This production reflected the commitment and growth of our students over the past six months. Each participant contributed to a high-quality performance that the College community can be proud of.
A sincere thank you to our dedicated Arts staff whose guidance and support made this production possible.
Congratulations to all involved. Your hard work truly paid off.
Stations of the Cross
Our students recently presented a reverent ‘Stations of the Cross’ performance, reflecting an important part of the Catholic tradition.
Through narration and simple staging, students retold the journey of Jesus with respect and understanding. They approached their roles with confidence and maturity, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere for those in attendance.
Each station was presented clearly and thoughtfully, allowing the audience time to pause and reflect. Students worked well together to ensure smooth transitions between each scene, demonstrating preparation and a strong sense of responsibility.
The performance highlighted students’ ability to collaborate and communicate an important message to the College community. It was a meaningful opportunity for both participants and audience members to engage with the story in a respectful and considered way.
We commend all students involved for their thoughtful efforts and the respectful manner in which they presented this significant Catholic tradition.
Mother’s Day Celebrations
In Week 3, our College community came together to celebrate Mother’s Day with a range of special events held across the school. Families from our Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Pre-Primary classes were warmly welcomed into the classrooms to enjoy morning tea celebrations filled with fun activities, laughter and quality time together. Students took great pride in sharing these moments with their mums and special guests, enjoying activities such as nail painting, magnet colouring, necklace making and biscuit decorating. Classes also prepared a delicious selection of baked goods to share, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who attended.
Across the Junior School, classrooms were filled with excitement as students celebrated the important women in their lives through thoughtful gifts, creative activities and shared experiences. The joy and enthusiasm on display highlighted the strong sense of community within our College and the meaningful connections between families and staff.
Our Year 7 students also hosted a beautiful Mother’s Day Mass in the Church, providing a reflective and heartfelt celebration for families. Students participated respectfully throughout the Mass and shared a touching video they created to honour the mothers, grandmothers and significant women who support and guide them each day. Their words and messages were a meaningful reminder of the important role these women play in the lives of our students and wider community. Following the Mass, families gathered outside in the sunshine to enjoy a lovely morning tea together, giving everyone the opportunity to connect and celebrate the occasion.
These celebrations provided a wonderful opportunity for students to express their gratitude and appreciation for the care, encouragement and love they receive from the important women in their lives. Events such as these continue to strengthen the partnership between home and school while creating lasting memories for our students and families.
We hope all of our mothers, grandmothers and guests enjoyed their celebrations, and we sincerely thank all families and staff who helped make these occasions so memorable for our College community.
Junior School
Student of the Month
This term, our Junior School gathered for our ‘Student of the Month’ assemblies, recognising the achievements of students from Pre-Primary through to Year 2. The events were filled with enthusiasm and a strong sense of community as we celebrated the commitment and progress of our youngest learners. PPD and 3D proudly shared examples of their classroom learning, adding to the sense of pride across the audience as students were acknowledged for their efforts.
Congratulations to all award recipients. Your dedication, persistence and positive approach to learning are to be commended and we are very proud of what you have achieved.
We also thank our parents and caregivers for their ongoing support and attendance.
Your involvement plays an important role in fostering a connected and supportive College environment.
Year 6 Camp
Week 2, saw a quieter campus as our Year 6 students headed to ‘Dare Adventure Camp’ in Dwellingup for a three-day experience centred on challenge, growth, teamwork and building positive relationships.
Students embraced a range of activities including rock climbing, kayaking, billy cart construction, night hiking and tackling the muddy commando course. Each experience encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and support one another along the way.
The camp concluded with a memorable evening around the bonfire, where students enjoyed marshmallows, sing-alongs and a strong sense of camaraderie.
We extend our sincere thanks to the staff who attended for their time, care and dedication in supporting students throughout the camp.
We also congratulate our Year 6 students for their positive attitudes, resilience and willingness to fully engage in every opportunity.
Celebrating Nathan’s Golf Achievement
We are proud to congratulate Year 4 student Nathan O, who has been selected to represent School Sports WA in the 9 Hole Modified Stroke event. Nathan will compete on 15 June at the Kwinana Golf Club, an exciting achievement that reflects his dedication and talent in golf.
Representing School Sports WA is a fantastic accomplishment and we are thrilled to see Nathan given the opportunity to compete alongside other talented young golfers from across the state.
We wish Nathan the very best for the competition and look forward to hearing about his experience.
Good luck, Nathan, the entire College community will be cheering you on!
Junior School Running Club
Our Junior School Running Club has been a great success, with students training hard each Wednesday morning before school as they prepare for their upcoming Cross Country event.
It has been wonderful to see students showing enthusiasm, perseverance and encouragement towards one another during training sessions.
A reminder for families that students who wear their sports uniform to Running Club are required to change into their winter uniform afterwards for the school day.
Secondary School
Building and Construction Career Taster
On Monday, May 11, a group of our Year 9 Students attended the Building and Construction (Multi-Trades) Career Taster at South Metropolitan TAFE Rockingham, accompanied by Mrs Irons and Mr Hancock.
Throughout the day, students participated in a range of practical workshops including bricklaying, plastering and tiling, gaining valuable insight into the skills, techniques and career opportunities available within the building and construction industry.
Students embraced the hands-on experience with enthusiasm and maturity, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and a willingness to challenge themselves in unfamiliar environments. A particular highlight of the day was hearing TAFE staff praise a group of our girls for completing “some of the best tiling they’ve ever seen” from students participating in the program!
Most pleasing of all was the exceptional behaviour displayed by our students throughout the excursion. They represented the College with pride, professionalism, and respect, and should be commended for the positive impression they left on staff at SMTAFE Rockingham.
We are incredibly grateful to Ms Liley, Future Pathways & Engagement Coordinator, for continuing to organise such meaningful opportunities that allow students to explore future pathways and develop valuable practical skills.
Year 10 - WA’s Largest Careers Expo
Recently, our Year 10 students attended WA’s largest careers expo, the only event in the state bringing together more than 100 organisations in one location. The expo showcased a wide range of local and national universities, vocational and professional training providers, industry associations and employers, giving students valuable insight into future study and career pathways.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to explore different industries, ask questions and gather information about the many options available to them as they begin planning for their futures. The experience encouraged students to think about their interests, strengths and potential career opportunities beyond school.
Our Year 10 students represented the College exceptionally well, with their behaviour throughout the day described as impeccable.
We are proud of the maturity, enthusiasm and engagement they demonstrated during this valuable learning experience.
Year 9 HASS
Our Year 9 History Mysteries HASS elective students recently took on the role of historical detectives, immersing themselves in an engaging and thought-provoking investigation. Working collaboratively in teams, students were challenged to explore a historical mystery, analyse a range of suspects and piece together evidence to form well-supported conclusions.
Through careful inquiry and source analysis, students examined primary and secondary sources, evaluating reliability and identifying key details to support their theories. This process encouraged them to think critically, question assumptions and develop a deeper understanding of how historians interpret the past.
To present their findings, students designed interactive and creative case boards that brought their investigations to life. These displays showcased not only their conclusions but also the reasoning and evidence behind them, highlighting their ability to construct clear, persuasive arguments.
The project provided an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their collaboration skills, as they worked together to share ideas, debate perspectives and solve complex problems. Their enthusiasm and commitment were evident in the high quality of work produced.
Well done to our Year 9 students for their impressive efforts in applying historical inquiry skills and demonstrating thoughtful, evidence-based reasoning.
Inspiring Future Pathways
Year 12 student Macey H is currently completing the final year of her two-year KIC (Kwinana Industries Council) Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre-apprenticeship — Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (Heavy Vehicle Servicing Pre-apprenticeship).
At the beginning of Term 2, Macey was invited to speak at the KIC iWomen Project, a program designed to give Year 10 female students valuable insight into careers within industry. The initiative highlights the wide range of opportunities available and the key qualities employers are seeking in the workforce.
Macey shared her career journey so far, including her experiences, achievements and future aspirations. She spoke openly about working in a traditionally male-dominated field, providing an honest and encouraging perspective for students considering similar pathways.
Her presentation was both engaging and informative, inspiring students to explore opportunities in industry with confidence.
Well done, Macey, on representing the College and KIC with confidence and professionalism. You are a fantastic ambassador for MTCC.
A Portrait of Honour and Achievement
Year 10 student Bella M recently attended the Lester Prize Youth Awards, a national youth art award featuring finalists from high school students across Australia, held at WA Museum Boola Bardip.
Her portrait Eudaimonia was exhibited among an exceptional standard of work. The piece honours her grandfather, Michael, an Australian Defence Force (ADF) veteran, who proudly wore his jacket and medals to the event, just as he is depicted in the portrait.
Bella’s artwork continues to gain recognition, having previously achieved first place at the Angelico Youth Art Awards in 2025 and first place in the 2D category at the Kwinana Industries Council Youth Art Awards in 2026.
It was a wonderful evening celebrating young artistic talent and a special moment to see Bella and her grandfather share in the experience together.
The exhibition is now open to the public. Take a look here: https://www.lesterprize.com/gallery-the-lester-prize-for-portraiture/youth-prize/
