As Term 3 comes to a close, we are pleased to share the latest news, achievements, events and celebrations from across our College community.
It has been a busy and rewarding term, filled with memorable events and experiences including Feast Day, Book Week, R U OK? Day, Father’s Day celebrations and Inter-school sporting events.
We hope you enjoy reading this edition of our newsletter and reflecting on the many wonderful moments that have shaped Term 3 at Mother Teresa Catholic College. We wish you a safe and happy holiday break.
Our holistic approach to education continues to encourage students to grow academically, develop their talents, strengthen their faith and live out our College motto: Strong in Faith and Love.

College Events
Celebrating Book Week at Mother Teresa Catholic College
Book Week was a wonderful celebration of books, reading and imagination at Mother Teresa Catholic College, with students across the College embracing the spirit of the week.
We were delighted to welcome acclaimed Western Australian author and poet Meg McKinlay to the College. Meg is a celebrated writer of books for children and young adults, with titles including How to Make a Bird and A Single Stone. Her work has received two Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and three Crystal Kite Awards.
Students in Years 2 to 5 had the wonderful opportunity to meet Meg and take part in an engaging session centred around her book Duck for a Day. Through storytelling, discussion and imagination, Meg brought her story to life and encouraged students to think creatively while discovering the joy of reading and writing.
The week continued with our much-loved Book Week Parade, which was a fantastic morning of creativity and fun. Students proudly showcased their wonderfully imaginative costumes, bringing some of their favourite characters and stories to life.
It was wonderful to see so many families join us and support our students. Our Secondary students also got into the Book Week spirit, cheering on our Junior School students and giving them plenty of high fives as they made their way through the parade.
Our staff and librarians certainly had a difficult task judging the creative costumes, with winners announced following the parade.
Thank you to our families for joining us and to everyone who helped make Book Week such a memorable celebration. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our love of books, reading and the power of imagination across our College community.
Saint Mother Teresa Feast Day
On Thursday, 3 September, our College community came together to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, a special day that honours the life and legacy of the woman whose name and values are at the heart of our College.
Our Feast Day celebrations included a morning Mass and Liturgy followed by a wonderful afternoon of community activities, with students enjoying a talent show, stalls, a silent disco and food trucks. The students loved the performance from our very talented staff band and it was fantastic to see our College community cheering each other on!
Feast Day provided an opportunity for our students and staff to reflect on Mother Teresa’s life of faith, compassion and service. Through her example, she reminds us of the importance of caring for others, showing kindness and putting our faith into action. These values are an important part of our community.
We are proud to carry Mother Teresa’s name and to continue her legacy by living out her values each day.
R U Ok Day?
On Thursday, 10 September, our College community came together to recognise R U OK? Day with students helping to spread an important message of connection, care and looking out for one another.
Our students welcomed families bright and early as they arrived at the College, holding R U OK? banners and sharing plenty of smiles and friendly greetings. It was a wonderful way to start the day and remind our community that a simple conversation can make a difference.
R U OK? Day encourages us to check in with the people around us, take the time to genuinely ask ‘Are you OK’ and listen with care when someone chooses to share how they are feeling.
Our students did a fantastic job creating a positive and caring atmosphere across the College and helping to reinforce the importance of connection and supporting one another.
A special thank you to Miss Baxter for organising this. Through small acts of kindness and meaningful conversations, we can all help build a community where people feel seen, heard and supported.
A Night of Creativity, Talent and Innovation!
On Wednesday, 23 September, our Arts and Technologies Evening brought our College community together for a wonderful celebration of student creativity, talent and achievement.
From the moment guests arrived, the Arts and Technologies buildings came alive with incredible student artwork, creative projects and displays showcasing the imagination, skill and dedication of our students.
The evening was also filled with fantastic live performances, with our students taking to the stage to entertain guests through Drama, the Mbira Ensemble and College Band. Their confidence, passion and talent were wonderful to see and made for a truly memorable evening.
Our Food Technologies team prepared delicious food for our guests and showcased the practical skills and creativity developed through our Technologies programs.
A special highlight was recognising our students with certificates celebrating their wonderful work, commitment and pride across the Arts and Technologies learning areas. We are incredibly proud of the students who continue to embrace opportunities to create, perform, design, experiment and innovate.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the evening and to our Arts and Technologies staff for their incredible work in organising and bringing this event to life.
It was a wonderful celebration of the incredible talent within our College and the opportunities available to our students, proving that MTCC is the College of choice for the Arts.
We are proud to provide an environment where creativity is celebrated, talent is nurtured and students are encouraged to discover what they can achieve.
Junior School
Dreaming Big in Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful day of dreaming big and imagining the future as they dressed up as what they might like to be ‘When they grow up’.
From future teachers and doctors to firefighters and many other exciting careers, our Kindy students proudly shared their ideas and enjoyed imagining the possibilities that lie ahead. It was wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm as they talked about the jobs and careers that interest them.
The day also included a very special milestone, with our Kindergarten students making their first visit to the Learning Hub. Their teacher read them a storybook, providing a lovely introduction to a space filled with books, stories, learning and imagination.
The visit encouraged our young learners to discover the joy of books and helped create a positive first experience in the Learning Hub.
It was a fun-filled day of dreaming, learning and discovering for our Kindergarten students as they explored their interests and imagined what the future might hold.
PSSA Inter-school Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday 16, September Mother Teresa Catholic College was pleased to host the PSSA Inter-school Athletics Carnival, welcoming students and families from Halls Head, Greenfields Primary School and Mandurah Catholic College.
The carnival was a wonderful day of friendly competition, teamwork and sportsmanship. Students enthusiastically participated across a range of athletics events, giving their best and encouraging their teammates throughout the day.
Inter-school carnivals provide students with valuable opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy competing alongside students from other schools.
A special thank you to our Junior School Physical Education Teacher, Miss Fernandes, for her wonderful organisation and preparation. We also thank our staff, families and visiting schools for helping make the day such a positive and enjoyable experience for all involved.
Year 3 Explore Science at Scitech
Our Year 3 students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to Scitech as part of their Science learning about the Sun, Moon and Earth.
The day began with an engaging science show, where students explored spring and bounce materials and discovered what happens when heat and cold are applied to different materials.
Students then travelled into the planetarium, where they learnt about stars, navigating using constellations and the different shapes, moons and atmospheres of the planets in our solar system. The planetarium was certainly a highlight, with students feeling as though they were flying through space!
In the main exhibition hall, students got hands-on with a wide range of interactive experiments, investigating light, wind, push and pull, bees, battery power, recycling, sun protection and much more.
It was a fantastic day of curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning, bringing their Science studies to life in an exciting way. What a brilliant day!
Father’s Day in Kindergarten!
On Tuesday, 1 September, our Kindergarten classrooms were filled with so many happy faces as we welcomed our special fathers and father figures for a very special Father’s Day celebration!
The children were so excited to show their dads around their classrooms and enjoy some fun activities together. There was lots of laughter and plenty to do, from shaving faces with shaving foam, decorating donuts, building with LEGO and making ties!
A big thank you to all our wonderful dads and father figures for spending this special time with us!
Secondary School
Farewell, Year 12s - The Next Chapter Awaits
This week, we bid farewell to our Year 12 students as they prepare to leave Mother Teresa Catholic College and take on the world!
Their final days have been filled with plenty of fun, laughter and memorable moments as our students participated in a Staff vs Students Basketball game and dressed up as their ‘Younger and Future’ selves.
It has been a pleasure having you as part of our College community. Over the years, we have shared so many wonderful memories together and we are incredibly proud of the young people you have become.
As they now turn their attention to their upcoming exams, we wish each of our graduating students every success. We are incredibly proud of the young people they have become and look forward to seeing where their unique journeys take them.
We are also looking forward to celebrating this special milestone with our Year 12 students at their Graduation Evening on Friday 23 October.
As they leave the College, we proudly welcome them into our Alumni community as ‘Collegians’. While their time as students may be coming to an end, they will always be part of the Mother Teresa Catholic College community. Our doors are always open, and we look forward to welcoming them back to visit, share their stories and celebrate their achievements. We cannot wait to follow their exciting journeys and see all they accomplish in the years ahead.
A special thank you to our Year 12 Student Leaders for the support, commitment and contribution you have made to the College throughout the year. Your leadership has made a lasting difference to our community and we are grateful for all that you have given.
Congratulations, Year 12s, go forward with faith, courage and confidence and as Saint Teresa of Calcutta reminds us, “Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person”.
MTCC Athletes shine at ACC Athletics Carnival
Our Secondary School athletes proudly represented Mother Teresa Catholic College at the G Division ACC Athletics Carnival on Monday, 7 September, showcasing incredible effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
The team achieved some fantastic results, finishing 4th Overall, while our Junior Girls and Senior Girls both finished 2nd in the Champion School competition.

Year 8 Father’s Day Breakfast
Our Year 8 students enjoyed a wonderful morning celebrating the special fathers and father figures in their lives at our Father’s Day Breakfast.
The morning was filled with laughter and meaningful moments as students spent time with the important men who support and encourage them.
We thank all the fathers and father figures who joined us and helped make the morning such a special occasion. Your presence and support are greatly appreciated by our College community.
Media Students Visit Perth Film Studios
Our Year 11 Media ATAR and General students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the new Perth Film Studios for a Careers Day focused on pathways into the film, television and wider screen industries.
During the 3 hour session, students rotated through a range of interactive activities and exhibitions designed to introduce them to the many career opportunities available across the creative industries.
The visit provided students with valuable firsthand insight into the diverse pathways within the screen industry, while allowing them to experience professional film studio resources and environments right here in Western Australia.
It was an engaging and inspiring experience that encouraged our students to explore the possibilities that await them beyond the classroom and consider future careers in the creative and screen industries.
The Big Bake Off
Our Year 11 Food Technology students recently put their baking skills to the test in The Big Bake Off, taking on a fun and creative challenge that combined culinary skills, teamwork and a little friendly competition.
Working in pairs, students were tasked with planning, preparing and presenting their own baked creations. From choosing their recipes and organising ingredients to working together under time constraints, the challenge provided students with an opportunity to put their practical skills to work while creating some delicious treats along the way.
There was plenty of creativity on display as students brought their ideas to life, with each team adding their own unique touch to their final creation. The challenge also highlighted the importance of communication, cooperation and problem-solving, as students worked together to produce their best possible result.
After plenty of hard work, our winners were announced:

Book Week 2026
Book Week 2026 was a wonderful celebration of stories, creativity and the joy of reading!
A huge thank you to our staff, Ms Waters, Mrs Johnston and Mr Doulton for their hard work, enthusiasm and support in making our Book Week Parade 2026 such a wonderful success. Their time and dedication helped create a special and memorable experience for our students and staff.
A big congratulations to all our classes for their amazing effort and creativity on Dress-Up Day. It was fantastic to see the incredible range of imaginative costumes, characters and ideas throughout the school.
We are already looking forward to another exciting Book Week in 2027, with the theme Catch the Reading Bug!
So, get ready to catch the reading bug and join us for another wonderful celebration of books, reading and imagination!

Celebrating Our Community: Feast Day and Father’s Day
It has been a wonderful time of celebration and community spirit at Mother Teresa Catholic College, with our Feast Day and Father’s Day activities bringing students, families and volunteers together.
Our Feast Day celebrations were a fantastic success, beginning with the Junior School sausage sizzle. Despite the rain, our wonderful volunteers continued to cook, serve and keep everything running smoothly, providing a delicious lunch for our students. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who generously gave their time to support the day.
The celebrations continued with the P&F Scooter Raffle, which received an incredible response from our College community. Congratulations to Neath from Year 2K, who was the lucky winner of the scooter. We hope he enjoys his fantastic new prize.
A special thank you is extended to Reece Whitby MLA for generously donating the scooter to the P&F and for his continued support of our College community.
Our Father’s Day celebrations were also a great success, with the Father’s Day Stalls raising an impressive $1,486.26 profit. Thank you to all the families who supported the stalls throughout the week. It was wonderful to see students carefully choosing special gifts for their dads, grandads, pops, carers and other important father figures.
Congratulations also to Cruz B from Year 7, who was the lucky winner of our Father’s Day Giveaway!
Once again, we thank Reece Whitby MLA for generously donating the Father’s Day Giveaway and for his ongoing support of our students, families and wider College community.
A very special thank you goes to all our P&F volunteers who helped with the sausage sizzle, Father’s Day stalls, raffles and other activities. From setting up and restocking to serving our enthusiastic shoppers and packing everything away, your generosity and commitment make these community events possible.
We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support of our College community and look forward to more opportunities to come together and celebrate throughout the year.

MTCC Students Shine at GKR Karate State Championships
Congratulations to MTCC students James and Olivia M who both competed in the GKR Karate State Championships in early September.
James achieved an outstanding result, taking home Gold and the title of Junior Open Black Belt Champion 2026 in Kumite (Fighting). His team also secured Gold in the Kumite team event, while James earned a Silver medal in Kata.
Olivia was also crowned State Champion 2026 in Kumite in her age and division. Her team also performed strongly, securing Gold medals in Kata.
We are incredibly proud of James and Olivia for their dedication, commitment and achievements in karate.
James will now travel to Sydney in November to compete at the National Championships, where he will represent WA and aim to bring home another Gold medal. We wish him all the very best!
Euan Recognised at the 2026 Sports Night
Congratulations to Euan B, who recently attended the 2026 Sports Night alongside his teammate and was nominated for the 2026 Team Sports Award.
The award recognises sporting success, leadership, inclusion and volunteerism through surf lifesaving, celebrating the dedication and contribution of young people within the sport and their wider community.
It’s wonderful to see Euan recognised for his achievements and the commitment he has shown through his involvement in surf lifesaving. His dedication, teamwork and willingness to contribute are a wonderful reflection of the values he demonstrates both in and beyond the sporting arena.
It was a very proud moment for Euan, his family and our College community.

Lyla selected for Western Australia Touch Football Team
Congratulations to Lyla T, who has been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2026 Touch Football 12s Girls Championship.
Lyla will compete at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Newcastle, NSW, from 26–30 October 2026.
This is a fantastic achievement and an exciting opportunity for Lyla to represent Western Australia on the national stage.
We wish her all the very best for the championships!
Student Showcases Artwork at Sonder Exhibition
We are delighted to celebrate the creative achievements of Year 11 student Tabitha W, who will be showcasing her original artwork as part of the Sonder Exhibition at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
The exhibition brings together creative works in a professional arts setting, providing an exciting opportunity for emerging artists to share their work with the wider community. The exhibition is running from 21 September to 30 October 2026.
This is a wonderful achievement for Tabitha and reflects her creativity, dedication and passion for the arts.
Congratulations, Tabitha! We are incredibly proud to see our students pursuing their creative interests and sharing their talents with the wider community.
Australian Cross-country Champion
Year 6 student, Harper A competed at the Australian cross-country championships in Ballarat on 22 and 23 August. It’s her second year on the West Australian team!
This year’s course was a real test, with heaps of mud, water and tricky obstacles. The rain and wet conditions made it super challenging, but Harper showed incredible resilience and determination.
She finished 32nd out of 74 and was the first WA under 13 women. Harper has been getting weekly coaching from teacher, Ms Dannenberg for the past year.
A World Championships to Remember
Our Pre-Primary teacher, Joe-Anne Dennenberg, has had an incredible experience competing at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, representing herself in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m Relay.
Reflecting on the experience, Joe-Anne described it as “crazy, wild but amazing fun” and a journey she will never forget. Her 4 x 100m Relay team went on to claim an incredible silver medal, making the experience even more memorable.
Joe-Anne shared her heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported her throughout her journey, including those who watched her races via livestream back home.
Joe Anne is incredibly proud to have been part of the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships Daegu community and hopes her experience encourages others to embrace opportunities, step outside their comfort zone and never let fear hold them back.

KEYS has been helping children thrive by strengthening the families and communities around them for over thirty years. We provide free, community-based services including counselling, family support, parenting workshops and programs that meet families where they are. Everything we do is designed to inform, empower and support in practical, meaningful ways.
